No go, sorry for the incoveniense. I read the installation notes and the answer is there

Up till now I was using Rails 2.1.1 and restfull_authentication was working fine. I upgraded to Rails 2.2 and the activation code mechanism seems broken.

More specifically, the activation code saved in the user's record in the database is different than the one sent in the user's email.

    I encountered this problem today and it's caused by the activation_code being created twice when a user is created.

    A simple fix is to add this line to the generated code in user.rb

    def make_activation_code
  return if activation_code <--- added
  self.activation_code = Digest::SHA1.hexdigest( Time.now.to_s.split(//).sort_by {rand}.join )
end
